The Rolls-Royce Foundation is thrilled to announce the raffle of a very special and significant Proper Motor Car: A 1990 Bentley Turbo R Saloon!

In July of 2021, the collectable automobile world was saddened of the loss of one of its most prominent and respected icons, Mr. William Maxwell Davis. Bill served as president of the Rolls-Royce Owners’ Club, Rolls-Royce Foundation, Classic Car Club of America, Classic Car Club of America Museum, as well as a long-time judge at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Bill was perhaps best recognized for his dapper bowtie and being the perfect gentleman. The Rolls-Royce Foundation is proud to have acquired one of his cherished automobiles!

Like many of Mr. Davis’ Rolls-Royce and Bentley motor cars, this Turbo R was purchased new and remained in his collection until his passing. Meticulously maintained by marque specialist and former Rolls-Royce and Bentley dealer Albers Motorcars of Zionsville, Indiana for its entire existence, it is easily one of the best-sorted, best-documented examples extant!

The RRF raffle car is finished in Black with beige pinstriping and a beige leather interior and was optioned with a chrome-plated grille shell, rather than the painted unit more common to the model. In fact, little is common about this car which has enjoyed a level of consistent upkeep and care that almost no other Turbo R has received! The significant and highly impressive file of invoices spans the time from delivery until May 2021, with most services performed by the trusted specialists at Albers, and whose receipts alone total over $366,000! This includes paintwork on the front end of the car following an accident in 1998, noted specifically in the repair file as “minor,” “no airbags used,” and, significantly, not noted on the CARFAX report. The car is, in fact, in very good cosmetic condition from stem to stern, with some touch-ups noted to the undercarriage, minor stone chips on the roof, and a fine interior with only minimal cracking to the driver’s seat; the wood veneers are in good condition throughout. Mark Albers noted that the engine, transmission, and rear end of the Bentley have never been rebuilt – as the car has always been well-maintained, and so has never required the work.

Mr. Davis drove this car from his home in Charleston, West Virginia, to the Rolls-Royce Owners’ Club Annual Meet in Lake George, New York, and it was returned back home again in June 2021. It was his last of many road trips accomplished in what was one of his most-loved, most- driven automobiles, and what may be the best-maintained surviving example of the model!

The lucky raffle winner of this spectacular car will also receive Mr. Davis’ well-recognized “777” West Virginia vanity license plate.
